New Patients

Your first visit to Burckhard Orthodontics is all about understanding your smile. Dr. Burckhard will perform a thorough exam, review photos, and walk you through your options. You’ll leave knowing:

Ready to get started? Call our office at (701) 838-1700 or request your free new-patient exam online today.

We use advanced tools like 3D digital scans (no messy impressions) and x-rays to create a customized treatment plan just for you. For children, early evaluation (ideally by age 7) helps monitor growth and development and can help prevent more serious issues later.

”Amazing staff. Amazing results for both my kids.”

Insurance

We believe orthodontic treatment should be accessible. Our office accepts most major insurance plans, and we’ll file claims on your behalf. We also offer flexible payment plans and financing options so you can focus on your smile—not the paperwork.

We aim to make treatment both accessible and affordable.

Orthodontic treatment is a process—we want you to have a smooth, predictable experience from start to finish.

Life with Braces

Getting braces is a journey. Here’s how to protect your smile, stay comfortable, and make treatment go as smoothly as possible:

Eating & Foods to Avoid

Stick to soft foods for the first few days. Avoid hard, crunchy, sticky, or chewy foods (nuts, hard candy, raw veggies, gum, etc.). Cut foods like apples or corn off the cob.

Oral Care & Hygiene

Brushing after meals and before bed (aim for four times a day) plus nightly flossing are essential. Regular cleanings with your general dentist are also very important.

Managing Discomfort & Emergencies

Initial soreness (especially after adjustments) is normal—use soft wax for irritation, and over-the-counter pain relievers (like Tylenol or ibuprofen) if needed. If a wire or bracket comes loose or something breaks, call us. Often there are ways to manage it temporarily until your next visit.

Cooperation is Key

Wearing rubber bands or appliances as prescribed really matters. Poor cooperation or delaying care (ignoring breaks, missing appointments) can lengthen treatment time or affect final results.
